Pandemic Can’t Stop Important Annual Event

BTC Soul Food Luncheon Goes Curbside

January 14, 2021

This delicious annual event will be served up a bit different this year. The Annual Soul Food Luncheon will be a curbside pick-up event (Feb. 23) with an online silent auction (Feb. 8-22). To-go lunches must be purchased in advance by Feb. 16 at www.tinyurl.com/BTCSoulFood. Meals will not be sold curbside. Proceeds from the event benefit BTC scholarships for students of color.

Curbside pick-up will take place from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Feb. 23 on Blackhawk’s Central Campus located at 6004 County Road G in Janesville. The menu includes:

  • Creamy coleslaw
  • Mac & cheese
  • Candied yams
  • Collard greens
  • Sugar glazed ham
  • Herb baked chicken
  • BBQ’d back ribs
  • Cornbread and rolls
  • Red velvet cupcake
  • Peach cobbler

The event is open to the public. Limited lunches are available for $12/adults or $10/students and seniors. The curbside lunch, presented by BTC’s Foundation, Culinary Arts Program, Student Government Association, and the Multi-Cultural Alliance, is generously sponsored by Angus-Young Architects/Engineers, Corporate Contractors Inc., and Blackhawk Bank.

“This is an important tradition at BTC that we did not want to cancel due to the pandemic. Therefore, we had to get creative this year,” said BTC Foundation Director Lisa Hurda. “The event gives our culinary students valuable hands-on experience, and proceeds will benefit scholarships for minority students at BTC.”

New to this year’s event is the online silent auction. Departments from the College have created exceptional themed gift baskets to be featured in a silent auction via the College’s Facebook page beginning at noon on Monday, Feb. 8. The silent auction will be open to the public until noon on Monday, Feb. 22.
