BTC students to support Beloit Startup Week

January 19, 2018

More than ever before business and postsecondary education work together on common causes to preserve the nation’s competitiveness and economic opportunity. Next week, students from Blackhawk Technical College’s (BTC) Business Professionals of America (BPA) chapter will do their part by supporting the inaugural Beloit Startup Week with two events – an Entrepreneur Trivia activity on November 8 featuring several area business leaders and an Innovative Entrepreneurs in Rock County panel discussion on November 9.

“Being entrepreneurial is an essential 21st Century skill,” said Jeff Kropp, Blackhawk’s Business Management Instructor and BPA Advisor. “Participating in a campaign like Startup Week is a great way for our students to use problem-solving skills, critical thinking and innovation – all while having some fun!”

The November 9 Entrepreneur Trivia will take place at BTC’s central campus, in room 1230 from 2-4 p.m. The game-show style event will feature keynote speaker Kim Lannta, Vice President of Blackhawk Bank along with several business guests including: Meghan Trimm, Humming Roots Media, Attorney Tim Lindau, Nowlan & Mouat, LLP, Albert Tipp, Allstate Insurance and Courtney Perakis, Edward Jones Financials. The round by round trivia content will be as follows:

2:30-2:40 p.m. - Round 1 — Financial Factors for Small Business
2:45-3:00 p.m. - Round 2 — Small Business Marketing
3:00-3:15 p.m. - Round 3 — Legal Aspects for Small Business
3:15-3:30 p.m. - Round 4 — Insurance for Small Business
3:30-3:45 p.m. - Round 5 — Small Business Management

The November 9 panel discussion titled Innovative Entrepreneurs in Rock County will take place from 11:30-1:30 p.m. at the central campus in the student common area in collaboration with Janesville Innovation Center.

Beloit Startup Week is focused on building momentum in Greater Rock County’s high-growth entrepreneurship community, showcasing the region’s startup success stories and highlighting the resources available to entrepreneurs in the region.

During Beloit Startup Week, a group of community partners will host 10+ events across the greater Beloit and Janesville area.
