New Leadership Development Degree at BTC
July 23, 2019
No matter the industry, all organizations benefit from strong leadership. “Whether you work in manufacturing, banking, retail, education, government or health care, a leadership development degree provides you with skills and preparation to be an effective leader,” said Blackhawk Technical College Business Management Instructor Joel Schleusner. The college is launching a new Leadership Development degree program this fall.
The Leadership Development degree program is designed for individuals who currently work in leadership roles or those who want to pursue leadership roles. The program provides training in leadership, supervision, human relations and quality improvement programs. Students will learn about their own personality and leadership styles and how they can use their strengths to become an effective leader.
Schleusner, who was a bank manager prior to his role in education, admitted, “Workplaces, in general, have changed a great deal since I was a banker. The employees and customers are much more diverse, and there is more reliance on technology and information.” Students in the program will be prepared to take on the changing landscape of the workplace.
Like many Blackhawk Technical College programs, the Leadership Development program is a flexible degree program. What does that mean? Flexible education means that classes in this program are designed to work around the busy schedules of today’s students. Thus, making the program more accessible to students who may have work and family obligations to balance. Students who prefer to take classes face-to-face are given that opportunity, and students who do not want to (or are not able to) meet face-to-face have other options including online or video streaming.
The program is designed to help busy people find success. It is tailored to working adults. In addition to the flexible format, a number of classes are offered as one-credit classes. Classes in the one-credit format allow busy adults to focus on subjects in a more modular format to build skills faster.
“The staff at BTC is helpful and friendly, and the students are extremely motivated,” continued Schleusner. “The technology is top-notch, and there is a lot of support to help you succeed.”
