Feel Safe and Comfortable on the Road

The Basic Motorcycle Rider Course is a 16-hour class, consisting of four hours of online classroom instruction with twelve hours of range training. Motorcycles are provided for students. All classroom and range exercises will be held at Blackhawk Technical College's Central Campus.

At the end of the class, you will complete a riding skills evaluation. Successful completion of this class will allow you to receive your Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Completion Card and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation Skills Test Waiver form. You will need to pass an additional written test at the Wisconsin DMV to obtain an "M" endorsement. You will NOT have to retake the road test at the DMV.

Please note the following requirements:

  • Basic Rider Course requires the online MSF ePackage 1 eCourse. You will gain access to this eCourse through a unique link sent to you by Blackhawk staff. You must complete the eCourse within 30 days prior to the start date of your Basic Motorcycle Riding class.
  • Students must have a valid driver’s license, this must be presented the first night of class.

Students who successfully pass both the written test and range skills test will be eligible to become motorcycle endorsed in the State of Wisconsin. This class also meets Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements for students under age 18 who wish to become motorcycle endorsed. Upon successful completion of the class, you will have to take the Skills Waiver Card to the DMV to receive your endorsement. (Remember you still have to successfully complete the written portion of the test at the DMV to receive your M endorsement).

Important Reminders:

If you are under the age of 18, you need to register in person.

  • If you are late or miss ANY of the classes, you will not pass this course.
  • Even if it rains, plan on riding. We recommend rain gear, change of clothes and a towel. In cold weather, dress in warm layers. Classes and range exercises may exceed scheduled times due to weather, range delays, student questions, etc.
