Dan Krause likes to get to know people, so what better way to do that than in public transportation.

Dan, who is the shuttle bus coordinator, is retiring at the end of the month after nine years at Blackhawk.

The Milton native retired from General Motors and went to work for Van Galder Bus Company as their lead trainer. After seeing a newspaper ad for drivers needed at Blackhawk, Dan was hired and appointed to run the shuttle bus program.

At that time, the College had four drivers among two buses, which has now grown to five buses among seven drivers.

“I don’t think we’re done growing yet,” he said.

The shuttle bus program came to fruition to assist students who may not have access to transportation to and from Blackhawk campuses.

Dan considers the flexibility that Blackhawk offers to be very helpful.

“We all have lives, and they may not be 9-5 every day,” he said. “Blackhawk gives them other means to learn.”

As Dan leaves, he says the people at Blackhawk are what he’s enjoyed most, and they have made him feel right at home.

Speaking of home, Dan and his wife Laura recently bought a house on Lake Koshkonong and are going to live out their dream of living on a lake. His plans for retirement will certainly include boating and fishing.

Congratulations on your retirement, Dan!
