Meet Matt Yarc, Blackhawk’s new Men’s Golf coach.
Coach Yarc is one of six new coaches at Blackhawk, supporting the college's new sports, including men’s golf, coed clay target shooting, women’s volleyball, coed bowling, and men’s and women’s basketball.
Originally from Libertyville, Illinois, Coach Yarc attended Liberty High School, where he played basketball, baseball and football before studying Marketing at the College of Lake County, where he played on the basketball and golf teams.
As the Men’s Golf coach at Blackhawk, Coach Yarc said he believes recognizing each player’s strengths and weaknesses is key to their improvement and future skill development. Influenced by his own past coaches, he applies these lessons to his coaching approach
“They made me and my teammates feel that their role was important, no matter how large or small the player's contribution was to the team’s success,” he said.
With 40 years of sports coaching experience, including 17 years in golf, Coach Yarc said he enjoys coaching because it allows him to build lasting relationships with players as they develop their skills.
While he values the benefits of sports in student life, Coach Yarc believes academics should be the priority, as they offer more opportunities than collegiate athletic
“Blackhawk is a great environment for the student-athlete to flourish due to the team culture that emphasizes academics, winning and preparing for the next stage of life,” he said.
