Blackhawk Technical College has launched a new student organization designed to support students of color through academic, personal development and community engagement resources. This initiative is part of Blackhawk's ongoing commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for students from historically underrepresented groups.

The Minority Excellence Organization (MEO) offers a range of services and resources designed to promote student success. Through mentorship, academic support, leadership development and networking opportunities, MEO equips students with the tools they need to thrive both on campus and in their future careers.

"At Blackhawk, we recognize the importance of creating spaces where all students feel seen, supported, and empowered to succeed," said Dr. Tracy Pierner, President of Blackhawk. "The Minority Excellence Organization is a critical part of our mission to build an inclusive campus culture that values diversity and fosters personal growth."

This initiative follows Blackhawk’s recent decision to join the National Consortium on College Men of Color (NCCMC) earlier this year. The consortium brings together colleges across the nation to improve educational outcomes for men of color through targeted programming and resources, and Blackhawk’s participation highlights its dedication to these efforts.

MEO is open to all students, with a focus on providing enhanced support for students of color. It will also collaborate with community partners to offer volunteer opportunities, internships, and professional development workshops, ensuring that students have access to a well-rounded experience. Two college academic advisors, Linda Fair and Xanthe Kuhn, are leading the new organization, which has already held two meetings this semester and will continue to meet monthly.
