Welcome to our “Get to Know Blackhawk” series, which uses a Q&A format to showcase the diverse and talented individuals within the college community.
What is your name and where did you grow up?
My name is Lacey Rebarchek and I grew up in Janesville.
What is your role at Blackhawk Technical College? How long have you worked here?
I am the Welcome Center Assistant here at the College and have been here for four years!
What was your journey to this role? Where did you go to school? What did you study?
I had worked in retail for 24 years before coming to Blackhawk so I thought this would be a great transition from that career to here. I love that this job still lets me interact directly with so many people and get to know our students. I graduated from Blackhawk with an associates degree in Marketing.
Is there something that drew you to this career?
I really enjoy working with and getting to know people and felt this would be a fun opportunity to do so.
What do you like most about Blackhawk?
Well, there’s a lot to like about Blackhawk, but I really do just love our students! They’re just great and getting to celebrate all their accomplishments with them is amazing!!
Why should a student choose Blackhawk?
I think Blackhawk offers so many alternative options for students who don’t know what path they want to take but know they want to do something. They can just take classes as a class-taker, and we have the AA/AS programs if they are looking to further their education after Blackhawk. Then there are students who know exactly what they want to do and earn a degree from that program.
What is your life like outside of work? Family? Community involvement? Adorable pets?
My husband and I have two boys, ages 22 and 18. We are a self-proclaimed National Park Geek family who love to try and check a couple of parks off the list every year. We have managed to visit 14 of the 63 parks and are excited to plan our next adventure. Our family also consists of four adorable (and sometimes sassy) cats, who rule the house for sure.
Tell us something about yourself you think people would be surprised to know.
I absolutely hate coffee and don’t like chocolate candy.
If you had to pick one season to live in all year round, which season would you choose?
It’s a toss-up between spring and fall, but I’d have to say fall.
What was your first concert?
My friends and I went to a Boyz II Men concert in high school.
Who’s your favorite Muppet?
I don’t have a favorite, but I probably resonate most with Animal. I kind of like that crazy dude.
If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, which food would you pick?
Tacos. So many options!
If you could be any TV character, who would you choose and why?
I think it would be Dwight Schrute. I just really love “The Office” and would actually be any of the characters. Dwight is resourceful, seems to know something about everything and he’s loyal to all persons (friends and otherwise). He marches to the beet (get it?) of his own drum and is who he is. I love that about him!
What is your dream vacation destination?
Anywhere. I love to travel, send me anywhere, though a view with mountains is a bonus.
What was your favorite cartoon as a kid?
It’s hard to pick one because they were all pretty awesome: “Jem,” “Strawberry Shortcake,” “He-Man,” “Transformers,” “Thundercats,” “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.”
What is your favorite pizza topping?
Nothing beats a really good cheese pizza, but I also like pepperoni, mushrooms and onion.
If you could have any superpower, which one would you pick?
I would love to be able to communicate with anyone in any language.
What’s one thing on your bucket list?
To visit all the National Parks.
