Get to Know Blackhawk’s Todd Voss, Athletic Director

What is your name and where did you grow up?

Todd Voss from Walworth

What is your role at Blackhawk Technical College?

Athletic Director

What was your journey to this role? Where did you go to school? What did you study?

I attended UW-Oshkosh for Physical Education/Health K-12 Education.

Is there something that drew you to this career?

It’s a part-time position with the challenge of building new programs. I have 32 years of experience as a teacher, coach and sports manager.

What skills do you possess that you believe will help you in this position?

Ability to work and build relationships with people as well as experience, attention to detail, and being a motivator.

What is something Blackhawk offers that you feel other colleges do not?

The flexibility and ability to start all new athletic programs from scratch.

What is your life like outside of work? Family? Community involvement? Adorable pets?

I’m semi-retired and run my own fitness bootcamps three mornings a week. I also work with local charities and have a yellow lab named Chip.

Tell us something about yourself you think people would be surprised to know.

I have had both my hips replaced.

What’s one thing on your bucket list?

Mountain bike all of the Colorado Trail, from Denver to Durango for 567 miles.

If you could have dinner with anybody, alive or dead, who would you choose?

Walter Payton

What is your favorite TV show?

“Due North Outdoors”

Who is your biggest influence?

Jack LaLanne, the godfather of fitness.

What is your favorite quote?

“Do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do” - John Wooden

What/who is your favorite book or author?

My favorite book is “Younger Next Year,” and my favorite authors are Chris Crowley and Jeremy James.

What's one song that must always be on your playlist?

Anything by Led Zeppelin.

What was your first job?

Working on the family farm.

If you could have any superpower, which one would you pick?

Super speed

What is your favorite pizza topping?

Pepperoni

If you could be a pro athlete in any sport, which sport would it be?

Golfer

What would be your dream car to own?

Lamborghini Huracan

What game show would you most want to participate in? Do you think you could win?

“American Ninja Warrior,”  I could have won maybe 30 years ago, lol.

Who’s the most famous person you’ve ever met? Tell us the story of how you met.

Walter Payton. I met him at the Vince Lombardi Award of Excellence Banquet during his rookie year.
