Student Employment at Blackhawk

The Student Employment and Internship Program is a co-curricular work opportunity for Blackhawk students. The program helps students earn money to pay for their educational expenses by working part-time (up to 20 hours per week) while learning transferable job skills.

Benefits include:

  • Flexible work schedule
  • Gain “real-world” work experience
  • Great resume builder
  • Offset some of your college expenses

All positions are part-time with the exact number of hours available varying based on the availability of funding, the needs of the position, and the availability of the student worker.

Depending on the student’s program of study and the requirements of the position, some available positions (either on campus or off campus) may be eligible for transition to an internship.

Jobs on Campus

Many of the positions available on campus are within the various academic departments of the college. For example, our Welding lab may need a student worker to assist in the lab, which would allow a welding program student the opportunity to get additional working knowledge of maintaining a welding lab. We also offer a variety of positions within our Student Services Department and Student Success Center where students can gain valuable office, customer services, and transferable support skills.

While all students are welcome to apply for available on-campus positions, some positions may be limited to students with Federal Work Study (FWS) eligibility. FWS is a campus-based program administered by the college’s Financial Aid Office, which allows students with demonstrated financial need to earn a paycheck through working a part-time job on campus.

Off-Campus Positions

Blackhawk partners with local businesses to offer job opportunities for our students that relate to their field of study. Available opportunities can be found in Handshake, as well as, in the CARE Center. Some of these positions are paid entirely by the hiring business, while some positions may be eligible to utilize Federal Work Study funding.

Find Employment Opportunities

Available positions are posted on Blackhawk’s job search tool, Handshake. Handshake is a website providing job and internship postings, events, and resources specifically for Blackhawk Technical College students and alumni. This is also a tool students can use as they begin their post-graduation job search.
