BTC Named Forward Janesville’s Business of the Year

Forward Janesville will recognize Blackhawk Technical College as its 2021 Large Business of the Year at the organization’s annual awards luncheon, which will take place sometime this spring.

This award is presented each year to a business of 50 or more employees that recognizes business success and community involvement as two vital components of its business strategy.

Jenny Tschudy, Forward Janesville’s Membership Development, Marketing and Events Director, shared the news Tuesday, Jan. 4, with Dr. Tracy Pierner, President of Blackhawk.

“This award recognizes Blackhawk Technical College’s support of policies, practices and attitudes for the advancement of women, social justice and racial equality and diversity throughout the community and a strong corporate culture of volunteering to improve the quality of life in our community and professionalism that makes BTC a success and an asset to our local community and economy,” Tschudy said.

Blackhawk Technical College has been a leader in making education accessible to all students regardless of their location. Using state-of-the-art learning and learning technologies, students can attend classes online or through hybrid instruction. These teaching and learning modalities allowed Blackhawk to pivot seamlessly in March 2020 after the state shut-down of on-campus instruction and has continued to allow flexibility to meet student needs.

In addition, the College has focused on community health needs over the past year. In February 2021, Blackhawk partnered with the Rock County Public Health Department, Wisconsin Department of Health Services, and AMI Expeditionary Healthcare to host the state’s first community vaccination clinic.

“We are honored to be recognized by Forward Janesville for the College's focus on meeting community needs,” said Pierner. “It’s been a team effort, and I’m so thankful for all staff, students and supporters of Blackhawk. We are pleased that we can provide quality education to our students during this pandemic. We’re also honored that we have been able to partner with community organizations to provide additional health, safety, and protective measures to our entire community through testing, vaccinations, and training first responders that will serve our state for years to come.”

The College also continues to serve as a critical resource in the region’s workforce. The first phase of construction for BTC’s new Public Safety + Transportation Center is near completion. This state-of-the-art, comprehensive facility will enhance training for the region’s first responders and transportation workers.
