Get to Know Erin Doeseckle, Welding Student

Image

What is your name? Where did you grow up, and what high school did you attend?
My name is Erin Doeseckle, and I grew up in Verona. I graduated from Verona High School in 2015.

What is your area of study? Is there something that drew you to the program?
I am currently in the Welding program for my certification. The new building this year is definitely a bonus!

How has Blackhawk helped you to pursue or complete your goals?
The teachers have all been very accommodating, and everyone's taken the time to make sure I have my schedule and classes so I can graduate on time.

Have you had to overcome any obstacles or challenges on your educational journey?
The biggest obstacle I face is being a mother of three (Myles, Odin and Espen) while also being a full-time student. The flex-learning programs have definitely helped with my time management between my home life and here at Blackhawk.

When do you plan to graduate, and what are your plans for life after Blackhawk?
I hope to graduate this upcoming year and land a job closer to home.

Tell us something about yourself you think people would be surprised to know.
I've read 84 books so far this year, not sure if I'm proud of that. I'm also really into clowns.

What is a song or artist that is always on your playlist?
Anything by The Mamas & The Papas!

What is your go-to karaoke song?
“Cliffs of Dover” by Eric Johnson. I don't sing, but I do a mean guitar sound.

What was your first concert?
I'm not sure about my first, but last year, I went to the Babymetal/Dethklok tour and 100Gecs, so there's a wide range.

What is your favorite book or author? What are you currently reading?
Just finished the “Fourth Wing” books and am waiting for the third book to come out in January.

Do you have a favorite video game?
“The Monster Hunter” series is very good.

What would be your perfect sandwich? Homemade? Jimmy John’s? Grilled Paninis?
Nothing beats a good Reuben!

Who is your favorite Muppet?
I am very passionate about Muppets, so when I tell you Rizzo the Rat is the best, you have to believe me.

What game show would you most want to participate in? Do you think you could win?
Japanese game shows are insane. I couldn't win, but I'd go on “Takeshi’s Castle” and lose horribly.

If you could learn any language, which would you choose?
I'm trying to learn Norwegian. The key word is trying.

October is National Manufacturing Month, celebrating the importance of U.S. manufacturing innovation and ingenuity to our standard of living. With nearly a dozen manufacturing-focused programs all being taught in the new IMEC building on our Beloit-Janesville Campus, we would to thank our instructors and area partners for connecting our students with the programs and pathways necessary to inspire them to pursue careers in manufacturing.
