There are few professions that make an impact like teaching, where the rewards far outweigh the trials. Working in the teaching profession gives you the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of young learners – it’s fun, challenging, and a privilege to know that you played a part in students’ growth and development in the classroom. With a degree in the Foundations of Teacher Education Program, you will be able to pursue a career as an Instructional Assistant or Paraprofessional – roles that are so important in the day to day activities of the classroom. Under the supervision of the licensed classroom teacher, you’ll help implement the lesson plan, tutor small groups in reading, writing, math, and science and play an overall instrumental role in the classroom. Opportunities in special education and general K-12 classrooms are typically available.
Blackhawk's Foundations of Teacher Education program covers special education as well as general education. It meets the Title 1 requirements and is aligned with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) Paraprofessional Standards and Teacher Standards and leads to DPI Paraprofessional licensing.
Upon successful completion of the Foundations of Teacher Education program, graduates may apply for a Short-Term Substitute License through the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
