Diagnostic Medical Sonography & Vascular Technology

Diagnostic medical sonography, also known as ultrasound, is a medical procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to create images of organs, tissues, and blood flow in the body. As a student in our Diagnostic Medical Sonography & Vascular Technology Program, you will gain practical skills in Abdominal-Extended, OB/GYN, and Vascular Technology. All graduates of the Blackhawk Technical College Associate Degree Diagnostic Medical Sonography & Vascular Technology Program are eligible to apply for the national credentialing examinations for Diagnostic Medical Sonography, in Abdominal-Extended, OB/GYN, Vascular Technology, and SPI, prepared by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).

Petition for Entry
In order to be eligible to petition this program for entry, you must apply to the college and meet all program-specific eligibility requirements.

Health Insurance
Students must have proof of health insurance.

Background Check
If your petition into the program has been accepted, you will be required to complete a criminal background check, complete the health requirements, and perform drug testing before starting clinical courses. Wisconsin law requires background checks of persons who provide care for others or have access to people who receive care. This law applies to Blackhawk Technical College Health Sciences Division students.

In accordance with Wisconsin Caregiver Background law, applicants with a criminal history may be denied placement by clinical affiliates or ineligible for national certification examinations. Applicants with any criminal background are strongly advised to meet with the program faculty and/or program advisor.
