BTC Alumni Hits One Million Dollars in Sales

Shaun Budde was a long-time employee at Lear Seating in Janesville when the GM Plant closed, taking Lear with it. Finding himself without a job and an opportunity to go back to school, he took it. Picking BTC for the simple reason it was just down the road from his house, Shaun hoped to enter the x-ray tech program. When faced with having to take some prerequisites, he shifted to the Business Management Program, harboring a secret desire to open his own canoe rental business.

As we wrap up another academic year, I continue to be blown away by everyone in the Blackhawk family. This was a challenging year, and yet this weekend, we will celebrate 300+ graduates who have completed this leg of their educational journey. Commencement is the culmination of all of your hard work, and for those unable to celebrate in-person with us, it is my hope you will tune into the ceremonies at 9:00 and 11:30 a.m. via the live stream on our website.

5 Steps to Build a Better Resume

Resumes are a business tool that you’re going to put in front of someone who will decide whether you will be an asset to their company. Employers spend between six and twenty seconds looking at a resume, so keep it short and sweet. Also, make sure it’s directly relevant to the job description of the role for which you’re applying. It’s always good to have several versions on hand. For instance, if you’re applying for healthcare positions, you might have one version for a hospital position, one version for a clinic position, and one version for a home healthcare position.

BPA Students Excel at Nationals

Business Professionals of America (BPA), a student organization for business and IT students, held its National Leadership Conference from April 26 - May 8.  The virtual conference, which was originally slated to be held in Orlando, involved workshops, demonstrations, and competitions. Four Blackhawk Technical College students - Mallory Worden, Natalie Sullivan, Josh Lichtfuss, and Dave Jaeckel - competed and were very successful!  They earned numerous awards, including two 1st place finishes, three 2nd place finishes, and five 3rd place finishes.
