From Student to Teacher, Blackhawk Instructor Dedicated to Student Success

Automotive Technician Program Instructor Sheldon Newkirk knows firsthand what it is like to be a Blackhawk Technical College student. He came through the college’s Automotive Program as a non-traditional student. “My goal is to give students that same wonderful environment that I experienced,” said Newkirk. Before starting the Blackhawk program, Newkirk gained hands-on experience in the Army as well as in the drag racing circuit in South Carolina.

Department of Workforce Development Secretary Caleb Frostman Visits Blackhawk Technical College

Blackhawk Technical College welcomed Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development Secretary Caleb Frostman to its Advanced Manufacturing Training Center in Milton on Friday, Oct. 4. Secretary Frostman’s visit was a part of the college’s Manufacturing Days celebration. Nearly 1,000 high school students participated in the two-day event that included hands-on learning in advanced manufacturing. The goal of Manufacturing Days is to provide early exposure to the wide variety of advanced manufacturing careers available in our region.

MFG Day Shines Spotlight on Local Employers, Education Pathways and Career Opportunities

Manufacturing Days has become an annual event at Blackhawk Technical College. The event has grown so much since its inception that two days are now necessary to accommodate the number of participating high school students. This year’s celebration will take place on October 3 and 4 with 18 schools and 26 employers participating.

BTC Students Celebrate National Voter Registration Day

BTC Student Government Association and Multi-Cultural Alliance celebrated National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday, September 24 with a non-partisan event to encourage students to register to vote. The League of Women Voters was on site to help students with the registration process and to answer questions about voting. Several individuals registered to vote at the event.

Involvement Key for IT-Networking Specialist Student

With her eyes set on a position in an area school district, IT-Networking Specialist student Raven Schneeberger jumped into student life at Blackhawk Technical College. Raven is a member of BTC’s Student Government Association and serves as a Peer Advisor as well as a tutor. “The environment of BTC is super inviting and helpful compared to other schools I experienced in the past,” said Raven.
