More Than $25,000 in Scholarships Awarded to BTC Apprentices

Seventeen apprentice students from Blackhawk Technical College have been awarded Tools of the Trade Scholarships from Ascendium Education Group. For the eighth straight year, Ascendium Education Group has recognized the important role of apprenticeships in preparing students for in-demand jobs by providing these scholarships. This year, Ascendium awarded a total of $375,000 in scholarships to 250 construction and industrial trade apprentices from 15 Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) institutions.

Leadership skills are in high demand more than ever. Blackhawk Technical College is responding to the demand by offering new self-paced leadership development options through its Workforce and Community Development department. Workshops can be taken individually or take them all for a more holistic approach to leadership development. All workshops are offered online and take about a week to complete.

When the pandemic struck, yoga instructor Valerie Hesslink (Middleton, WI) had a lot more free time on her hands. She’s always been interested in bringing her knowledge and philosophy as a yoga teacher to a therapeutic setting so, when fitness centers shut down, she said, “the timing seemed to be aligned for developing my career in this way.”

For Jace Jensen, the journey to BTC has been one of learning about himself and what kind of a career he wanted to pursue. High school started rough for Jace since he struggled with an undiagnosed learning disability. Getting help with the learning issues made the rest of high school a little easier, but he still failed to meet his potential.
