Brittany Kelly was in one of the first cohorts of students who completed the Medical Lab Tech program when it first launched at Blackhawk. She took that knowledge and has now worked in the blood bank for Mercyhealth’s Janesville location since her graduation in 2013. As this year’s Alumni of the Year, she demonstrates her continued appreciation for the program by regularly returning to share her knowledge.

Over 20 high school graduates from Rock and Green counties were recently awarded the Blackhawk Technical College High School Scholarship. Each high school in Rock and Green counties was allotted at least one award each for a high school senior committed to attend BTC. Students received this $500, one-time award during their high school’s spring honor ceremony. 

Steve Jones has been a valued faculty member of the BTC Manufacturing, Apprenticeship, Technology, and Transportation (MATT) Division for five years. He has worked tirelessly to make the complex field of Diesel mechanics and service accessible and meaningful to new students.

Medical dramas always focus on the doctor. But when the surgeon reaches back and says “Scalpel,” it is a Surgical Technologist who puts the right scalpel in their hand. These operating room team members prepare and sterilize instruments, handle surgical specimens, and maintain a sterile atmosphere.
