When your past is full of personal trauma and struggle, you have two choices: bury it so that others don’t see what you’ve suffered or bring it out into the light and use it to help others who walk the same road. Justin Ganus has chosen to take the most challenging parts of his past and pursue an education to help others avoid and recover from the path of addiction he has battled.

Jennifer Deuel fought long and hard to get to where she is today – a mother of two boys, a homeowner, a successful employee, and a student looking to advance her career. Just a few years ago, she was a victim of domestic abuse and homeless.

Three years ago, Josh Lichtfuss didn’t so much decide to start a new career as he was forced into one. After nearly ten years with his employer, he suffered a back injury. Two surgeries, several injections, and countless hours of physical therapy later, it became clear that he would not be able to return to his previous work. “I knew the only way to get back to work was to get some more education,” Josh said. After conducting significant research about where and what he wanted to study, acutely aware that it had been 18 years since he last set foot in a classroom, Josh chose to pursue a Business Management degree from Blackhawk Tech.

As a City of Milwaukee Police Lieutenant, Will Walsh has had a passion for providing the officers under his watch with quality training and education. Back then, he was responsible for training and leading special interdiction teams with S.W.A.T. Today, he's retired from active duty, but he is still passionate about providing quality education to law enforcement students as an instructor at BTC. 

When Tiffany Garrison-Stanley interviewed at Blackhawk Tech three years ago, she wanted to get her hands on the college’s Anatomage table. This $80,000 piece of equipment is the crowning jewel of the newly launched Anatomy Learning Center (ALC) located in room 1303 on BTC’s Central Campus.
